Reconstructing Duccio – The Passion Scenes from the Maestà, by the artist and historian Lesley Kerman, is a deeply thoughtful and highly personal account of her life long relationship with the reverse side of the Maestà, a series of panels painted by Duccio di Buonsegna during the early 1300s in Siena, Italy. It was a revolutionary set of paintings at the time and deals with the story of Easter, starting with Christ’s entry into Jerusalem on what is now known as Palm Sunday.
In 2016 she embarked on a life-size reconstruction of the work, which took two years to complete. This process of investigation was so exciting, enlightening and engrossing, that she began to record her thoughts and discoveries, which resulted in this intriguing book.

The publication was launched at the opening  of the first exhibition at Capel Bethel in Cwmrheidol, Lesley Kerman – Reconstructing Duccio, on Saturday 13th April, the day before Palm Sunday 2019.
