Ian Whittlesea invites the audience to take part in an illuminated meditation in the Bascule Chamber, located inside Tower Bridge. His ongoing work Becoming Invisible is adapted to the rarely accessed cavernous space. This experiential and performative audio installation is accompanied by a light show ranging from total darkness to the most intense light imaginable. The audience, in groups of 50, is guided down into the chamber by the voice of hypnotherapist Ruth Sabrosa, alongside the sound of rhythmic breathing and visualisation cues. Once in the Chamber the participants are asked to reflect on the colour spectrum and finally to step into a white cloud, perhaps allowing them to become permanently invisible.
A project supported by Art Night’s Patron Circle 2017, kindly hosted by Tower Bridge.
