Sarah Dobai will be staging a new performance work entitled The Forged Coupon. The work will feature footage streamed from an inaccessible room in the gallery building accompanied by a live reading of excerpts from Leo Tolstoy’s short story ‘The Forged Coupon’ (1912). The story unfolds from a scene that tells of a schoolboy solving his need for money by passing off a large value forged bank note to pay for a frame in a photography shop.
The performance relates to the forthcoming Everyday Press publication The Copyists.
Ian Whittlesea will be presenting a series of posters in advance of the artist’s upcoming publication The Egyptian Postures featuring photographs of Ery Nzaramba demonstrating twelve esoteric Finger Exercises.
Ian Whittlesea’s work is concerned with words, and with the ability of text to transform the physical and psychic state of the viewer. It assumes many forms, from painstaking paintings to printed books, ephemeral posters and transient projections, and explores the relationships between language, image and diagram both on the page and in the world.
