Mein Rasierspiegel – Von Holthuys bis Beuys

An exhibition celebrating the new wing and renovation of the museum and the acquisitions and programme of the former Director Guido de Werd, who worked for 40 years in Kleve and organized exhibitions and build a collection at Museum Kurhaus Kleve since 1997.

On 21 April opens an exhibition of the prints of Richard Long and in the Summet there will be the exhibition The Present Order is the Disorder of the Future with work of ao. Ian Hamilton Finlay.

Ettore Spalletti – Museum Kurhaus Kleve II

....In 1972 Ettore Spalletti developed a new technique based on fresco painting, in which a specially composed plaster mixture is applied to a ground of wood, linen or stone. 'I add the colour while the mixture is still fresh. It is absorbed by the plaster and colours the whole layer. This is not pure colour, however; the exact shade depends on the amount of white I use in the mixture. Red becomes pink, white stays white, black becomes grey, and so on. Then, when the surface has dried, I go over it with sandpaper. I'm also intrigued by the feel of the surface. It's not only colour, but also a kind of powder, the true colour showing through the powder. When you touch the surface it leaves an imprint on your hand.'

Ettore Spalletti – Museum Kurhaus Kleve

Today, 24 May, opened Ettore Spalletti at Museum Kurhaus Kleve (Cleves, Germany). It is the first solo exhibition of this Italian artist (1940, Capelle sul Tavo, Pescara) since 25 years in Germany.
The beautiful work, paintings – or rather sculptural objects – on wood or albast stone, reminds to Minimal Art but also to fresco paintings of the Renaissance. The colours of the works – with soft shades of red, pink, blue and grey with black and white and (leaf) gold – radiate wonderful in the, sometimes specially adjusted, pristine white rooms of this museum.

Alan Charlton exhibition Kleve

Alan Charlton – 49 Grey Rectangles

In the entrance of the Museum Kurhaus you can see a framed copy of an edition I produced with Alan Charlton on the occasion of his exhibition in this museum (28 September 2008 – 11 January 2009). This print 49 Grey Rectangles is published in an edition of 50 signed and numbered copies, silkscreen on Somerset satin 300 grs paper, 49,8 x 67,5 cm. The print is available for € 550.
(There's also a very good catalogue, designed by Walter Nikkels, published on the occasion of this exhibition)

Alan Charlton will have an exhibition with Ulrich Rückriem at Gallery Bernier/Eliades, Athens, Greece (11 February – 28 March 2009)

Brice Marden at Museum Kurhause Kleve

Yesterday was the opening of the exhibition Brice Marden - Retrospective der Druckgraphik at Museum Kurhaus Kleve in Cleves, Germany. It's a beautiful survey of his prints, with work from 1966 till 2001, accompanied by an excellent catalogue, in German and English, published by Museum Kurhaus and Museum Wiesbaden. The exhibition will continue until 26 April 2009.

During the opening of this show I had a nice conversation with Walter Nikkels, the well-known Dutch typographer, who designed the interior of the Museum Kurhaus. Walter Nikkels is working on an extension of this museum, including the restauration of the former studio of Joseph Beuys in this building, which will be finished in 2010.
