Ian Whittlesea – The sun is but a morning star

A recent print of Ian Whittlesea is part of the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London

A small print, The sun is but a morning star (For Henry David Thoreau), is hung in the print room of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The image is derived from the title page of the first edition of Walden. The original woodcut was based on a drawing by Thoreau's sister Sophia and has been redrawn and printed over a black background to suggest that a light burns within Thoreau's cabin.
