Simon Vinkenoog 1928 – 2009

Simon Vinkenoog, the Dutch poet, writer and artist, sadly died last Sunday 12 June, in Amsterdam at the age of 80 from a brain haemorrhage.
The poet was involved with the Dutch 'Fiftiers', the writers and painters Lucebert, Karel Appel, Corneille, Hugo Claus and Remco Campert, and friends with beat poets such as Allen Ginsberg, whose work he translated.
He was also an admirer of the work of herman de vries, who had a mutual interest in the use of hallucinating drugs.
Earlier this year he wrote a text for a book of Nono Reinhold with her photographs of Machu Picchu, Peru, which I will publish with Nono Reinhold in Autumn 2009.
Simon Vinkenoog kept a blog on his site: www.simonvinkenoog.nl
